This short course explores issues around effective transition from Reception to Year 1.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore some ideas around transition, such as:

  • Preparing children for a smooth transition into Year 1
  • The use of end of EYFS data to efficiently plan to meet the needs of the new class
  • The use of the environment to engage children and promote independence
  • Theory and information about play based learning

Each session will be presented in a bespoke way that reflects the appropriate key stage that the NQT is currently teaching in. Experienced teachers from across the area will share good practice and helpful ideas to support NQTs in their first year of teaching. Sessions are designed in a way that will compliment school practice and support each individuals school policy in relation to teaching and learning.

The course aims are to welcome new staff to the council, provide an overview of the visions and priorities of the council and give an opportunity to learn about the organisational and political structure.New staff will have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the chief executive or an executive director. 

The course will briefly cover areas such as learning and development opportunities, staff travel, health, safety and wellbeing, and equalities and diversity.  It is an effective starting point for new staff to increase their knowledge of the city council and network with other new staff.
